I:
There are fossils all over my heart.
Skulls of lovers,
their words immortalised
slowly disappearing within my earth’s crust.
I’d love to uncover them
And make sense of them,
Piece by piece,
Recreating a lost life.
Or I leave them where they are.
In the darkness
of my heart’s petrified flesh.
II:
Torn and divided,
Once, I was one.
One land.
One ocean.
But time breaks
Everything apart.
Mountains rise,
Earthquakes destroy,
Volcanoes vanquish,
Rivers find their way
To the sea.
New landscapes flourish.
I break
And break again.
It’s everyone’s nature.
And I flow back
Together again.
What was torn and divided,
Unites
Valleys shift
And mountains form.
Volcanoes fall silent
And rivers run dry.
I change my face again.
The present rhymes with the past,
Echoing into the future.
Torn and divided.
Once I was one.
I change my face again.
I come back
To you
Again.
